Why proverbs be preserved

I am thinking of sayings such as "A stitch in time saves nine" or "A penny saved is a penny earned. The Bible, of course, has an entire book of such pithy sayings—the book of Proverbs. However, this compilation of proverbial wisdom is different from all other such collections in that these sayings reflect not just human wisdom but divine wisdom, for these proverbs are inspired by God. Still, we must be very careful in how we approach and implement these wise sayings. Simply because they are inspired does not mean that the biblical proverbs are like laws, imposing a universal obligation.

Yet, some people treat them as if they were divine commandments. If we regard them in that way, we run into all kinds of trouble. Even divinely inspired proverbs do not necessarily apply to all life situations.

Rather, they reflect insights that are generally true. To illustrate this point, let me remind you of two of our own culture's proverbs. First, we often say, "Look before you leap.

But we have another proverb that seems to contradict it: "He who hesitates is lost. In many situations, wisdom dictates that we examine carefully where we should place our steps next so that we are not moving blindly. At the same time, we cannot be so paralyzed in our evaluation of the pros and cons of our next move that we hesitate too long before making a decision and lose opportunities when they present themselves to us. Have it sprinkle, melt and preserve humanity. And if the beast of self-preservation does not permit such freedoms, I will preserve myself to my own death.

Another important principle is to avoid the circumstances where compromise is likely. A girl who wants to preserve her virginity should not find herself in a house or dorm room alone with someone to whom she is attracted. Nor should she single-date with someone she has reason not to trust. A guy who wants to be moral should stay away from the girl he knows would go to bed with him. I know this advice sounds very narrow in a day when virginity is mocked and chastity is considered old-fashioned.

He will honor and help those who are trying to follow His commandments. Hold that promise and continue to use your head. I wonder whether current human efforts are relevant to its sustainability. Bakhassa is different.

That is why we, Bakhals, love our homeland so much and wish to neither invade the other universes nor let others penetrate through ours. We believe the other species have killed their universes due to their vile codes of conduct. We do not wish the same to happen to ours, because we cherish our beloved home, unlike them. This is not word for word but rather gives a paraphrase of what the writer is communicating.

The best way to preserve an apple is to dip it in cooking oil as long as you need it. Question is: How to preserve the Lamb's wool. What process we need to take. We need to preserve our world for future generations. It's saying once you have faith in God, there is no need to worry anymore.

Only a small segment of contemporary society memorizes in the old sense. Merely reading a succession of proverbs is of very limited appeal or usefulness. The true context for a proverb is not a collection or anthology of proverbs but actual situations of life. For a proverb to rise to our lips on such occasions, we need to be able to call the proverb to mind.

Our cultural situation makes that difficult. There is a sense in which proverbs were the ancient version of information storage and retrieval. I use that terminology to highlight the function served by proverbs. But the word? Proverbs do not convey information; they convey wisdom.

By contrast, we live in the information age.
