By Randy Alcorn. Email address. Delight in how excellent is God that He opened your eyes to realize your need for a Savior! When you delight in the excellencies of God you will come to understand that everything about Him is the answer to your longings. Devote yourself to discovering in the Bible what He reveals about His character and ways and you cannot help but delight in His excellence. If you spend the rest of your life learning the immeasurable greatness of God, admiration for Jesus will explode in your heart and mind.
This will ignite an insatiable desire in youto know more of His excellencies —— resulting in even greater delight and true satisfaction in Him. And nothing —— not even fretful circumstances, will steal away from you this supernatural delight. The Hebrew word for delight anag commands us to find enjoyment in God.
The Lord wants us to incline our hearts toward Him —— to lean in to Christ where we will discover unspeakable joy. The Creator of heaven and earth is more than willing to draw near to you if you would but lean into His presence through prayer, meditation on Scripture and hearing Him speak to you through His Word.
We are empty-nesters so the house can feel rather lonely. He texts often while I am away —— which is delightful! Can you imagine how it would hurt our intimacy if I chose to ignore his texts until I returned home from my trip? But God does not want you to delight in Him out of duty. Rather, whatever God commands Christians to do, He always provides not only the ability, but also gives us the unction to do it. Did you boisterously celebrate a long-awaited victory together?
To experience deep, satisfying fellowship is a gift like no other. The same is true when it comes to delighting ourselves in the Lord.
To delight ourselves in the Lord, we must first know Him. God calls us to know Him for several reasons. First, He wants us to discover His many attributes that are so worthy of delight.
He also desires a relationship with us. The third reason God calls us to press on to know Him Hosea is because the exercise of seeking Him is profoundly important to the nurture of our souls. What state of mind do you think David is in when he declares his one desire? He knows that this one thing, above all else, will help him overcome the agony of desperation. What does David hope to gain from his request? But the cares of this world and complacency can blind us to that truth. When we turn our eyes away from this world and fix them on Jesus, our delight in the Lord is assured.
God promises that when we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. And when we find Him, His divine qualities, especially those that are manifest through Christ, will sweep us off our feet. They failed—hard. His secret to contentment was a deep, abiding trust that God loves Him, keeps His promises, and provides for all his needs Philippians Paul understood that if he was hungry, there was something to be gained from experiencing hunger—greater empathy for others, thankfulness during times of plenty, an avoidance of poisonous food that might disrupt his mission.
If God said "no" to one of Paul's wants, it was because God had a better plan in mind for his life. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
You have to choose. Everything in the world—sexual desire, the pursuit of wealth and things, the desire for status and fame—comes from the world. And one day, the world and all its lures will be tossed out like garbage. But whoever chooses the will of God will live forever in contentment.
