This fix is recommended only if your Adam has stopped booting up after installing the over-the air system update on 24 January. Please don't use the method indicated to flash your Adam with any ROM not from Notion Ink, as it would probably damage your Adam irreparably.
If not, it's readily available in any electronics shop. About 80MB. Using your favourite ZIP extraction tool, uncompress all the files in the Adam Recovery Kit to any folder on the hard drive of your computer. Also make sure that your computer will not turn off during the flashing process.
Turn off your Adam and enter force recovery mode by pressing and holding both the Volume Down - and Power buttons for two seconds. The orange charge and red CPU indicators on the right side of your device will light up, indicating that your Adam is in force recovery mode.
You may receive a warning that the driver is not certified or signed by Windows — choose to install it anyway. You're now ready to flash your Adam. Make sure that the USB cable is connected securely. If you're using Linux, open a console window at the folder containing the extracted Recovery Kit, and run. Your device screen will show that it is being updated, and the console window will show the progress.
If the update is interrupted mid-way, your Adam will be damaged irreparably. Most likely it will fail and you need to find the drivers folder and make your computer associate the missing drivers with that directory. On a Windows Computer this is done by accessing the Control Panel and then Device Manager and associate the missing driver with the one in the Unzipped folder you did earlier.
Linux users want toopen a console window at the folder containing the extracted Recovery Kit, and run. Your device screen will show that it is being updated, and the console window will show the progress.
The first thing you want to do with the proper rooting process is download the particular files to your computer. You want to then copy the Update. The next step involved is to put the MicroSD into your Adam with device turned off. If all goes according to plan your Adam should instantly update and then reboot.
If it says it cannot find your files you want to scroll down to update. After this process is done it should automatically reboot! The next thing you want to do is clear your cache. It will again boot your machine! Here is the last step to full market enjoyment and reveling in eternal glory, you have to erase your user data. This is acomplished by just letting your Notion Ink Adam boot as normal. Once the system automatically reboots itself, it will put it to a state of factory default.
The Adam tablet is their first go in the market and the road so far has been rocky. You may recall the timeline: This message about a start-up doing a tablet came just days after another notable tablet died. This one was set to come out in June complete with Tegra chipset and Pixel Qi screen. We were excited. CES arrived and we somehow missed the Adam.
The tablet was a hit of the show with a novel form factor and fancy UI concept art. After seeing the CES pics and videos, a June release schedule seemed just about right. But the June date was soon replaced with November , but then switched back to late summer — and then to January A few things happened from January to now, though.
Apple fanbois, grab your notepads. The Adam-ites are out-doing you on fanboards and forums Internet-wide. These people are nuts. Look at Notion Ink Adam blog comments. This blog post will probably be littered with Adam trolls within minutes of its posting; our other Adam posts certainly are. If we deem the Adam anything less than the best thing since penicillin, the Adamites will burn down our houses and steal our iPads. You cannot understand the Adam without looking into their fans.
