Unity says the "spirit of God" lives within each person. Original Sin - Unity believes that humans are inherently good. It believes the Fall occurred not in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve 's disobedience to God, but in consciousness, whenever a person resorts to negative thinking. Salvation - "Salvation is now," according to Unity, not something that happens after death. Unity teaches that each individual produces salvation when they turn from negative thoughts to positive thoughts.

Sin - In Unity teaching, sin is a separation from God by harboring thoughts of fear, anxiety, worry, and doubt. It can be corrected by returning to thoughts of love, harmony, joy, and peace. Trinity - Unity does not mention the Trinity in its statement of beliefs.

Sacraments - Not all Unity churches practice baptism and communion. When they do, they are symbolic acts and are not referred to as sacraments. Water baptism represents the cleansing of consciousness. Unity practices communion by "appropriating the spiritual energy" represented by bread and wine. Salvation then is the expanding of our awareness to embrace and demonstrated our own innate Divinity.

We believe that Jesus left some very powerful teachings as guidelines on how to seek the Divine Presence. Consequently, Unity seeks to understand these guidelines and use them as the basis for all of our teachings. The Law of Mind Action. Therefore, an emphasis is placed on how our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions draw our experiences to us. We believe that everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought. Prayer and Meditation. In Unity prayer is not seen as a technique for changing God, but as a means of aligning our mind with the Infinite and thereby changing us. Prayer is our connection with the One Creative Force of the Universe, and is the way we seek and attune our mind to be in accord with God. We believe that meditation is a form of prayer, a type of creative thinking that heightens our link to the Divine and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

Unity also teaches a unique form of affirmative prayer, called Denials and Affirmations, which is a way to eliminate our erroneous thoughts and empower us to focus on the Truth and the Good we seek. This is the force of love and wisdom that underlies all of existence. Human beings are divine at their core and therefore inherently good. Thoughts have creative power to determine events and attract experiences. Prayer and meditation keep us aligned with the one great power in the universe.
